LIVINGSTON, TX – In a stunning turn of events, local resident Cletus Johnson, 56, has declared himself the rightful ruler of all wildflowers in Polk County after allegedly discovering the last remaining patch of bluebonnets in the area.
Johnson, who describes himself as an avid outdoorsman and self-proclaimed “flower whisperer,” made the bold proclamation during a gathering at the annual Polk County BBQ Cook-Off. Clad in a camouflage vest and straw hat adorned with fake bluebonnets, Johnson stood atop a picnic table and announced to the crowd that he had stumbled upon the precious patch of Texas state flowers while out on a squirrel hunting expedition.
“I was out in them woods, minding my own business, when I saw a flash of blue out of the corner of my eye,” Johnson recounted to the incredulous onlookers. “I followed that trail and lo and behold, there they were – the most beautiful bluebonnets these here eyes have ever seen.”
Since the discovery, Johnson has taken it upon himself to protect and preserve the bluebonnet patch, posting handmade “No Trespassing” signs around the area and patrolling it with a rake and watering can. He has even started charging tourists $5 for a glimpse of the rare flowers, claiming it is for “conservation efforts.”
“I reckon it’s my duty as King of the Wildflowers to ensure these beauties stay safe and sound,” Johnson stated proudly, as he adjusted his fake flower crown. “Long live the bluebonnets, and long live the King!”
