Local Man Starts Petition to Rename Polk County to ‘Bubba County’

LIVINGSTON, TX – In a bold move that has left residents scratching their heads, local man and self-proclaimed proud Texan, Cletus Johnson, has started a petition to rename Polk County to ‘Bubba County.’ Johnson, a lifelong resident of Livingston, believes the name change would better reflect the county’s true essence.

“I’m tired of all these fancy-schmancy sounding county names. We need something that represents who we really are – friendly, down-to-earth folks who love our sweet tea and BBQ,” Johnson stated proudly.

The petition, which has been circulating around town on social media and at local BBQ joints, has already garnered over 500 signatures, with many residents expressing their support for the change.

“Y’all, I reckon ‘Bubba County’ just has a nice ring to it. It’s got that good ol’ boy charm that we all know and love,” said Mildred Jenkins, a lifelong resident of Onalaska.

However, not everyone is on board with the proposed name change. Some residents have raised concerns about the potential impact on the county’s reputation and tourism industry.

“I just don’t think ‘Bubba County’ accurately represents the diverse population and rich history of Polk County. We should embrace our heritage while also looking towards the future,” stated local historian, Dr. Samantha Thompson.

Despite the controversy, Johnson remains optimistic about the petition’s success.

“We just need to show them city folks that we ain’t afraid to shake things up a bit. ‘Bubba County’ is where we come from, and we should be proud of that,” Johnson remarked.
