LIVINGSTON, TX – In what can only be described as a mix of determination, frustration, and a touch of Texan stubbornness, local resident Billy Joe Jenkins has officially set the record for the most times rebuilding a fence after armadillo attacks in Polk County.
Jenkins, a lifelong East Texan and proud owner of a piece of land just outside Livingston, has been engaged in an ongoing battle with the pesky armadillos that seem to have a particular vendetta against his fence. According to Jenkins, he has lost count of how many times he has had to repair the damage caused by the armored critters.
“I tell ya, these armadillos are relentless,” Jenkins stated in an interview with polkcountytoday.com. “It’s like they’re playing a game of ‘Let’s see how many times we can knock down Billy Joe’s fence.’ Well, let me tell you, they ain’t winning that game.”
Local wildlife experts have confirmed that armadillos are known for their digging behavior, which can inadvertently lead to damage to fences and other property. However, the sheer frequency of attacks on Jenkins’ fence has left many scratching their heads.
“I’ve been studying wildlife in East Texas for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” said Dr. Martha Thompson, a wildlife biologist at the East Texas Wildlife Center. “It’s almost as if these armadillos have a personal grudge against Mr. Jenkins.”
Despite the setbacks, Jenkins remains undeterred and has vowed to continue rebuilding his fence each time it falls victim to the armadillos. “I ain’t one to back down from a challenge, especially when it comes to protecting my property,” Jenkins declared. “Those armadillos may be persistent, but so am I.”
