LIVINGSTON, TX – In a shocking turn of events, lifelong Polk County resident, Billy Joe Jenkins, has filed a lawsuit against the Weather Channel for what he claims is the consistent and deliberate inaccuracy of their East Texas weather forecasts.
Jenkins, a proud member of the Polk County Gravy Tasting Society, cited numerous instances where he had cancelled outdoor BBQs, hayrides, and even fishing trips based on the Weather Channel’s predictions, only to be met with sunshine and clear skies.
“I’ve had enough of their shenanigans,” Jenkins declared, standing outside the county courthouse with his lawyer, Bubba Ray Bobson. “I trust those folks at the Weather Channel to give me an accurate forecast, and time and time again, they’ve let me down. It’s time they pay for the emotional distress they’ve caused me and my fellow East Texans.”
The lawsuit, filed on Jenkins’ behalf by Bobson, claims damages in the amount of $10,000 for mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of outdoor activities, and the cost of unnecessary rain ponchos and umbrellas purchased as a result of the inaccurate forecasts.
The Weather Channel has yet to respond to the lawsuit but issued a statement saying, “While we strive for accuracy in our forecasts, weather patterns in East Texas can be unpredictable. We apologize for any inconvenience Mr. Jenkins may have experienced.”
Local residents have mixed reactions to Jenkins’ lawsuit, with some supporting his bold stance against inaccurate weather reporting, while others question the validity of suing a national network over localized weather patterns.
In the meantime, Jenkins has taken matters into his own hands, launching his own weather forecasting website, EastTexasAccuForecasters.com, promising his fellow East Texans “the most accurate weather predictions this side of the Sabine River.”
