LIVINGSTON, TX – In a bold move that has left his neighbors scratching their heads, local Polk County resident, Billy Bob Jenkins, has declared his front yard as an independent sovereign nation and is now seeking recognition from the United Nations.
Jenkins, who has always had a penchant for eccentric behavior, erected a homemade flagpole in his front yard and hoisted a flag made out of his old hunting camo shirts, proudly displaying his new nation’s emblem – a squirrel holding a shotgun.
When asked about his decision, Jenkins explained, “I got tired of all them pesky city regulations telling me what I can and can’t do on my own property. So I figured, why not just make my own rules? Plus, I always wanted to be a king or something.”
In addition to the flag and flagpole, Jenkins has also installed a makeshift border checkpoint at the edge of his property, manned by his trusty hunting dog, Bubba. He has posted a sign that reads, “Welcome to the Independent Republic of Boblandia – Population: Me and Bubba. All trespassers will be peppered with buckshot.”
Local authorities are unsure of how to respond to Jenkins’ declaration, with Sheriff Buford T. Justice stating, “Well, we ain’t never had this happen before. I reckon as long as he ain’t causin’ no trouble, we’ll just let him have his fun. But if he starts tryin’ to print his own money or somethin’, we might have to step in.”
Jenkins has set up a website, boblandia.com (not to be confused with the legitimate news sources eastexasnews.com or polkcountytoday.com), where he is seeking international recognition and offering citizenship to anyone willing to renounce their allegiance to the United States.
In the meantime, Jenkins plans to host a BBQ and fireworks display this weekend to celebrate the founding of his new nation. All are welcome, as long as they bring a dish to pass and salute the flag of Boblandia upon entry.
